Monogram design project for M J Books

Mandy Brannan is a London based book artist, papermaker and Art tutor who runs a variety of courses across the country and can be found tutoring at Central St. Martins Art Collage.

Mandy approached Adam James Armstrong to design a winning  solution for two distinct areas of her business. Which he did perfectly in the form of a monogram.

Project Title

Monogram Design for Mandy Brannan and M J Books.

Details

Mandy Brannan is a London based book artist, papermaker and Art tutor. She runs a variety of courses across the country and can be found tutoring at Central St. Martins Art Collage. Mandy's love of structure through architecture is something that resonates through her design process.

The brief was to create a logo and Identity that could function for different facets of her business; both as Mandy Brannan and as M J Books. The solution was to design a monogram that would emphasise both sets of initials MJB and MB.

The subtlety of the "J" within the "B" along with the addition of the title M J Books perfectly marries this side of the business, whilst by simply removing the title, the monogram still hold's it's own and can function for any other side of the business.

Additionally, the underlying structure from which the monogram is formed is also included as part of the design for M J Books. Part of the brief was to include a nod towards architecture and or the structure of "things". Again, respective of any other parts of the business any structural guidelines were omitted and the monogram set within a circle with a border - drawing attention to something more unified and with greater adaptability across other media outputs.
